Victorian Kenrick No 5 Cast Iron Sad Iron Primitive Rustic Farmhouse Decor
£32
Materials: Metal, Cast iron
An authentic Victorian cast iron sad iron manufactured by Kenrick of West Bromwich, England, stamped with the distinctive “K” trademark together with “700” and “No.5” markings. Dating to the late 19th century, this beautifully aged iron is a wonderful example of traditional British domestic ironware from the Industrial Revolution era. Kenrick was one of England’s best-known iron foundries, producing high-quality household ironware and laundry equipment throughout the Victorian period. This substantial No.5 sad iron features a classic tapered form with a solid metal handle and an exceptional untouched patina developed through decades of age and use. The deeply weathered oxidised surface gives the piece remarkable primitive character and sculptural presence. Originally heated directly on a stove or open fire, sad irons were used for pressing heavy Victorian linens and garments before the introduction of electric irons. The term “sad iron” derives from an old English word meaning solid or heavy. Today, this piece makes a striking decorative object for farmhouse interiors, rustic kitchens, primitive displays, laundry room styling, industrial decor, or antique collections. A genuine Victorian Kenrick example with strong historical and decorative appeal. Circa 1880–1910. Materials: Cast iron and metal.
